Afternoon fishing near me?

So I get done with work each day around 3-4. I live on James Island near Folly beach (just before the folly beach pig) and am looking for good places to go drop in for an hour or two of fishing/afternoon yaking that aren’t too far off and that I dont have to muck with rush hour traffic going or coming.

Any suggestions? So far Ive dropped in at Riverland terrace (but not fished there yet, just had fun fighting an outgoing through Elliots cut, hehe) and at James Island country park fishing dock (caught a baby flounder).

You sound like you are pretty close to the Sol Legrae boat landing headed toward Folly. I have fished from a boat out of there, but would think that would be a good spot for kayaking also.
Just picked up my first kayak this afternoon…Heritage Redfish 14’ Angler package.

Thanks for the info, and its a shame you dont have peddle drive, hehe.

Yeah, really close to Sol Legare, though others on here say it can be a sketchy landing to leave yout stuff at (truck, etc).

Ive put in there one with my Regal with no problems, so maybe give t another chance.

Where you planning on fishing your new Heritage?

Hey- fish your own 'hood!

Put-in’s:

Folly River- lot’s of options for creeks and flats in either direction, or even just fish the docks.

Bowen’s- easy launch for yak. Downstream to King’s Flats, upstream to Clam Farm.

Sol Legare- heard the same rumors about vehicle safety. Haven’t had a problem myself. Oyster banks and creeks on left bank as go downstream.

Mosquito Beach ramp- thought about it; haven’t done it yet.

Anyone catch anything up Sister Creek or around Long Island and Goat Island? Looking to try that this season.

Also:

I launch near FB Pig and yak down to Stono via King’s Flats or out to Morris Island by Sister’s Creek. Nice trips when you have more time than a couple hours. Did the MI lighthouse in my Native 12 last time, will try in Hobie Outback Tandem soon.

I’m out there many weekends. Let me know if you’re heading out.

How about sheeps at Folly creek bridge (Crosby’s); ever try it?

Thanks for the suggestions. This week and next week im getting in the swing of things but have relatives coming in from out of town so can’t commit to an afternoon, but Ill definitely let you know. My goal is to be on the water most afternoons.

Stick,

That folly creek bridge looks soooo fishy (you do mean where all the construction for the 526 extension is near lowes right?) Where do you put in to get into that creek?

Also, thought Bowens island was private or for restaurant? Is there a landing there?

Folly Creek bridge is first bridge after FB Piggly Wiggly, going toward the ocean (1+ mile from your home). Old Clam Farm docks on near side, Crosby’s on far side.

Next to Bowen’s Restaurant is an oyster shell ramp you can back your vehicle down, launch yak, then park on grass across from restaurant. If owner around, he’ll sometimes charge a $2 launch fee. Can work the docks upstream, up to Folly Creek Bridge /Clam Farm or downstream past old pier and entrance to Kings Flats. Has been a decent trout area, flounder in flats, reds at docks and creeks. Little boat traffic except in main creek.

King’s Flats and all the little uninhabited islands around there, Robbins Creek, and Green Creek is great yak territory.

You may have already done this but:

It’s somewhat difficult when exploring the many flats in the Folly area to “see” from 3’ above sea level, how to get around the inumerable creeks and flats. I laminated the Wikimapia/Google earth aerial views and keep it on the yak. Great way to know which creeks connect to which.

Also put an Eagle FF/GPS on to mark holes and other objects of interest.

Can you park at Crosby’s to launch? They rent kayaks, thought they might frown on owners coming in?

Also, regarding eagle ff/gps, im looking at the 250, any thoughts?
