Striker Mike put us on the fish yesterday - out of the Creek at 0500 and lines in at nearly 8 am around the 380 hole. Two newbies got the first two dolphin in the box in the first 20 mins. and we picked at them on a pretty weedline all morning. Weedline was perfect but only showed a temp. break of .8-.9 degrees - 79-80 or so. Ended up with about 16 fish, three or four peanuts and the rest nice 25-35 pounders. Oh, and my newbie friend Dave caught the last fish of the trip - a nice sailfish. We threw him in at 120’ on the way home and then again at the dock. Dave, not the sail, that is. Fun stuff. Bite turned off about noon, but we kept at it until nearly 3. A move back to the ledge at noonish to look for a 'hoo did no good. My uncle-in-law hooked up when we stopped to toss spinners at schoolies, and managed the biggest fish in the box on a tiny spinning reel. Better him than me…
Must say - I’ve been on a lot of offshore trips, charters, with friends, in my own boat, whatever, and this was one I’ll never forget. An awesome new boat, but a crew that really made the experience unforgettable. They’ve got a reputation in Charleston and absolutely deserve it. Thanks very much, guys.
Glad you guys had some action. I was on the Aggressor with Capt. Timmy Tuesday, we just couldn’t seem to get anything to bite. Had a couple dolphin early in the day, two decent size, and two slingers. No action after 11 though. Weed line looked great, just wasn’t much to be found. Still beats a day at the office though!
It was a pleasure and a very fun group. Thanks for the compliments. I hope yall had a good time. That was a nice dolphin on 12lb spinning reel. Hope to see you again.
Saw no floating dock, but saw pretty much everything else that floats on that weedline… Also saw a few Right Whales at a legal distance, plus several turtles and a large pod of Flippers. There is nothing like seeing a 40-year-old man seeing his first flying fish. He didn’t really believe what he was seeing until about the fifth one popped up.
Biggest fish producer seemed to be a 6’ piece of barnacle-covered skinny pipe insulation. Go figure. Will post some pix here in a little while (if anyone can point me to FAQ’s or give me the heads-up on how to post them, I’d appreciate it - whoisstevekimock <at> hot mail dot com).
