AINT SHE PURTY? - UDC - 9-13-11

Laurie caught this one before I could even get the 2nd line out. 30" Spottail. Her first one.

Her father, Dave, hooked up less than 10 minutes later with a 32"er.

Laurie’s poor hubby, Matthew, didn’t catch a thing.

We caught several undersized Redfish, and that was about it. The day was beautiful on the water.

Uh… research. Why else would someone tag a fish? Good on you Capt Fralin for all the tagging you do. I’m looking forward to re-catching one someday

SCPOLOMAN, I tag them hoping the other biguns will get jealous and want a big yaller tag too.

No, for real, I tag them with DNR tags so that they can track them. I have done it for many years. And have enjoyed every bit of it. The ■■■■■■■■ is awesome. I tagged one fish with 44 spots that traveled from Edisto to Georgetown in 109 days.

Sounded like a simple question, to me. But, your answer on the other hand…

Were people this short with you when you first started fishing/posting? He is listed as a new member with less than 20 posts.

SCPOLOMAN, they use to encourage average anglers like me to tag fish so, they could accumulate data on our local fish population. If recaptured, they would be able to tell you if the fish had gown, if it had traveled, if it had been injured, etc…

Now-a-days (the last time I checked), the tagging program is less funded and more restricted. But, if you catch a fish with a tag in it, you can turn the numbers (off the tag) in and they will give you all the data they have on the fish AND a free T-shirt. If you want to eat the fish and it’s within the slot limits, you can do that too. It’s not illegal to eat a tagged fish.

Normally we only tag oversized (outside the slot). Don’t know if there are any t-shirts left. I’ve had several people who turned in a recapture tell me they didn’t get one.

john’s usually very good about re-ordering hats and t-shirts ahead of time, but the fiscal year rolls over on july 1 and purchasing is usually cut off for june. that might explain it, but either way those folks should call back and check in with him.

Thanks for the info captain.
