Airmar B60

Why is it that everyone says to place the thru hull transducer on the starboard side in the bilge, but a ton of people place them on the port side? Does it really matter?

Airmar instructions say to put it on the starboard side. That’s for standard rotation props. I guess you don’t want the prop pushing water back up to it if it was on the port side??? Make sure there is nothing but smooth glass in front of it also. I’ve got the 1k thruhull. Can read perfect bottom running 40kts.

I put mine on the port side because that is where it had to go. My high speed pickup and plumbing were on the starboard side and I have limited bilge access because of my livewell below deck between the gas tank and rear bilge access.

I doubt that which side you mount it on makes a difference because propwash is going either forward or aft directly from the propeller. Only if I am reversing hard enough to cavitate the prop my B60 loses the bottom. It doesn’t lose the bottom whatsoever otherwise.

You do want to route the ducer cable away from your engine 12V leads and other interference causing wires. Mine is run thru the port side cable chase while all my engine harness stuff is thru the starboard chase. Very pleased with the performance of mine.
