Alabama rig

Any one out there have any experance with one! They are killing the freshwater stripers with them in the upstate! It is an umbrella rig that you cast, it holds 5 jig heads.I also posted on the striper forum.I bet it will also be a killer for trout and reds and also nearshore and offshore!

watched some video on that and it looked sick!

Hey boatpoor. I was throwing an alabama rig last week. The five jigs swimming in the water really look like a little school of fish. We caught a nice spotail. It hit on the old fashioned ‘mudminnow under a float’ however so I can’t give the alabama rig credit. I have a feeling bluefish or spanish mackerel would go nuts over this thing though!!! I am gonna keep working and experimenting with it.

They do look good under the water. two things i dont like about them is they make a big splash and i think it could scare the fish and when casting under docks they tangle easily. I also think spanish and blues would tear it up.

Haha…no, you can’t skip it. It’s like casting a brick!

Excuses? I’ve heard them all!

I saw one on used on the Scott Martin show this weekend. They caught a lot of white bass, a few stripers, and several nice largemouth bass. The guy throwing it was using a bait casting rig set up for 5 oz. lures…very stiff rod. It really catches fish. It did make a big splash though!

If the rig is what I am thinking, they had them as a new item in the Bass Pro sale paper that came out this week.

Looks cool.

There are others on the market that aren’t as heavy…know some guys that throw throw 3" grubs on hand poured jigheads(light) that are catching some pretty impressive LM and SB on Murray with them.

Musky(XH) rods with 100# PP line. Purely finesse fishing

by SB do you mean striprd bass or spotted bass?
if spotted bass- when did they show up on Murray?

Striped Bass…there have been a “few” spotted bass caught on Murray.
