I do about 7 or8 wraps down and then 5 or 6 wraps back up over top and do two half hitches to finish. It’s held some mighty big fish for me so I’m a believer.
Not trying to hijack just have 1 question. Can i tie a swivel to mainline then leader 2 line and a lure to leader? i dont like tying my topwaters onto my braid…
haven’t been using the Albright for too long, but I’ve had no problems with doing exactly what Rapchizzle described (you’ll sometimes the version with down and back wraps called the “improved” Albright or various other names.) Has held up to some pretty big fish for me too, definitely a fan.
and to answer yakman, yes. I used to do it exactly that way. Now that I am a fan of the Albright if I’m using a leader I usually just tie it directly to the braid. Most of the time throwing lures I just tie directly to the main line though. never really noticed much difference either way, but I’m lazy so the fewer connections the better.
18 turns then 3 turns over only half of the loop you will have in the mono to make it an improved Albright special. Keep in mind an Albright is with a loop of mono you already made with a spider or Bimini. What I do to attach braid to mono is an Albright special. The red Phillips is better if you’re starting from scratch.i just have tied the improved Albright special so many times that I am confident in them when I tie them. Practice makes perfect.

You need to leave the swivel out and connect braid to mono or fluoro using an Albright special or red Phillips knot. I do an improvement on my Albright special because I am using such high pressure when bottom fishing offshore. There is no need for the bulk of the improvement on the end when fishing inshore. As with other knots, the lighter the line, the more turns you will need.
With 80lb to 80lb like doublen said, I would do 18 turns over the whole loop then 3 turns over half the loop to lock it.
Another good knot for this is the sebile knot. You should try all 3 and stick with the one you can tie properly and have the most confidence in.
this seems a little different than what you guys are saying, but I find the way that this guy shows you to cinch the knot to be particularly helpful. NN- For the diameter differences with your connection, you may want to bimini your braid. Just make sure everything lays nicely if you do double the line.
