All Fly

I’m thinking about throwing nothing but the fly this fall for trout and reds. Anybody else ever done it or thought about it?

If a man wakes up early to go fishing he 's sleep deprived, If a man wakes up late to go fishing he’s fish deprived

If you can, my hats off to you.Good luck.

About 3 years ago I decided to only bring fly tackle with me every time I fish in order to get better in adverse wind conditions. Since then I have had no desire to go back to conventional tackle. I catch fewer fish most days than I did before but I am not out there for groceries.

I definately will be and can say Trueblue will as well(atleast I think so:wink:). Honestly there is no turning back for me now. The only thing I might use a spin for is to troll. Honestly I know its mindless but it sure is fun to sit back and enjoy Gods creation while reeling in fish. So to answer your question yes I will be doing the same. I will be fishing trout with my 5 wt this year and might give it a try on my 3wt only problem that ill run into is the weight of the flies but Ill deal with it. Cant wait to start catching them on the topwater flies again during the cooler days thats always a blast.

Nicely said I agree you catch less fish but the few or many you do catch really are worth it.

Once I started flyfishing about 15 years ago and learned that you can target so many dif species its been hard for me to not bring the flyrod.

I haven’t picked up a conventional rod (except offshore) since febuary. Since my first few reds on the fly I find I don’t want to do anything else. I’d like to learn how to catch the trout on poppers. Caught a runt red (23 in, 3.5 lbs) on a copperhead this morning after I pulled the boat out. There were fish tailing within walking distance of the ramp. May not even take the boat tomorrow.

You have plans for the tide on Saturday and Sunday True?

What is your favorite topwater fly? I know gurlgers work pretty well. In the new SFF they have an article on the sound waves made by the flys. Its pretty cool. I’m working on some grub type (space guppy, etc,…) flys right now.

Honestly Ive had great luck with your ordinary crease fly. Nothing special and there are tons of different variations of this type of fly. There is alot better ones out there just havent looked to hard at topwater flies yet.

99% of the time that is all I take, I take one rod with a floater and one with 250grain teeny sinker, unless I am on a flat I use the sinker …pink and chartruse (sp) when it is warm, brown and black when its cold.
