Skinnee, I’m hoping to get my troll on a day or 2 out there. Perfect time for the wife and daughters to go for the first time being that we only have to go 5 miles off. 7 year old boy has already been a couple times trolling.

The best thing to do is to do a spearfishing charter down in Marathon. You can spear hogs, grouper, and catch lobster in 10' of water. Everyone loves that.

If you are going to troll, I would try to find some local reports to see if they have seen any sails down that far yet.

And, I would troll live baits (goggle eyes) down there if I had to do it.

Thanks skinnee! 10’ may work. I can’t go much past that before my ears feel like they are going to explode. It’s gotten worse as I got into my 20’s. Used to dive with my grandad and never had issues. I’ve tried popping and blowing out my ears during and before and never found a way they helped the pressure and pain. My plan was to pull ballyhoo and yozuri bonitas not live bait. Probably going to suck at the troll it sounds like. Idk where to start to get live goggle eyes.

Plan it out ahead of time… Call the bait shops down there. You can buy live bait from them. As far as your ears, it’s technique… 95% of the time when someone “can’t clear their ears”, it’s because they aren’t doing it right.

You gon’a take your boat? Be sure to carry a chum bag and big cast net! I have an electric grinder I make my own chum from fish heads skins and guts, work well and a lot cheaper and easier than bought! Good luck and have a nice trip! Be sure to get the kids in the water with a mask.

Taking the Wet Dream, yes. I have chum bags but only a 6’ net. Just haven’t been able to get a 7’ heavy. Kids will definitely be doing some snorkeling. They love doing it in the pool so this will blow their mind.

Try Sudaphed an hour before you dive. Use the “real” sudaphed, the little red ones you got to sign for. They work for me. They last about 2-4 hours.
