I don’t have exact #'s, but I think we ended up with:
1 slinger (a.k.a. cf.com gaffer) dolphin
a few cudas
1 kitty mitchell grouper
10-15 scamp grouper (one caught by a young lady on light tackle will be put into the trident at 14.8#)
10-15 dinner plate triggers
1 ARS (around 10#)
5-10 footballs/vermillions/B liners
10-15 pinks/red porgies/silver snappers
10-15 scampnose* sharks
banded rudders
lots of undersized smaller species fish
etc. etc.
We broke off a few more grouper and probably a snapper or two as well. I tried to get a gag in the last few minutes of fishing, but I couldn’t make it happen.
I trust that S4G will give exact quantities as well as the proper narrative in his report due on my desk by tomorrow at 7:30AM.
Thanks for the invite on a fine bote with fine people. The 31FA Contender and grilled fish for lunch was excellent.

It starts late Thursday afternoon, after much begging by Pallet and Splitdecison we gave up Chunky Dunk to fish aboard the cat for a 1 trip contract consisting of values to large to mention on this site. Being 4 men short I began pulling a crew together. The first 4 fell through, then the next. In desperation I called everyone who’s phone number I had that has ever mentioned wanting to go offshore fishing. I FINALLY got a assorted crew of 6 together, good ones just hard to find on short notice. Trigger man, Dentist-doc, the Judge, and I met up in Manning for a 2:45am departure time. Left the dock around 4:30 headed to the hole.
Splitdecision followed us out then we broke up a bit to tackle this renown tuna bite. Had a hit first thing but pulled the hook then rode around for an hour or so. Then it happens, the long rigger snaps and creams to life ZZZZZZZZZZZZ, then the short rigger, ZZZZZZZZZ then the wayback. ZZZZZZZZZZZ. One by one be started pulling hooks. Pretty much got worse from there. Hours later got a dolphin in the boat and pushed the skunk out, then the cudas moved in. Trigger man worked them over and Phin tagged and released them. We trolled from 6:15ish till 4:45 minus about 1 hr for a wild hair Phin had about some structure he found around the hole.
The day was looking dim, the crew was worn but not defeated. I had given it my all. I trolled everything I had, every way I could. Short, long, deep, shallow, fast, slow, east, west, north, south, near boats, away from boats. Just not my day. Phin had been slobbering all day about wanting to bottom fish, but not till we had a tuna.
I finally realized it was not meant to be, I handed over the helm. Phin pulled a sheet of paper from his pocket and began punching in numbers. Spot after spot he was not happy with the fishfinder. Finally he said “this one is it, see that” (pointing to the furuno) “you tell Skinneej that is what a scamp looks like on a fish finder”. We dropped the a

Someone said it was a silky. Who am I to argue? A silky it is.
S4G, I don’t pay too much attention to phin these days, the groopa slayings have gone to his head! And probably rightfully so. I’m just jealous.
