Helped HoltOn out by taking half of his group of 9 buddies that were in town for a bachelor party this weekend. The 4 guys that fished with us were very green to offshore fishing but they caught on quickly. I drove, and the world famous Chunky Dunk ran the spread. Got a late start so we were greeted by a number of boats when we got to Edisito Banks. First rod in the water was hooked up in 45 seconds. 2 thoughts came to mind, fish on the first cast is bad luck or this is going to be a 30 fish day. More on that later. First fish was a big dolphin that our angler did well on. Got fish boat side and seeing Chunky with a gaff caused him to dive under the motors. Now we have a mess. I shut them off (my batteries work Phin:wink:
) and tried to help with the fish. He is not in the prop but around the starboard motor. I grabbed the leader in pulled him in a bit, Chunky stuck him but the hook and line in his mouth were stuck in trim of the motor so he could not get the fish out into the boat. Fish begins to go wild, fish flops off gaff, line breaks. Game over!![]()
Lines back in and it turns slow. Ended up picking at them for the rest of the day no big numbers. But the crew seemed to enjoy themselves. Came in early so the guys could prepare for the nightly festivities at Charleston’s local… well you know they were on a bachelor party.
Ended with:
9 dolphin, the biggest released between the motors
1 cuda
Highlights:
The Sirus weather module we got last year paid for itself as it showed the storm track of our afternoon thunderstorm. We had actually found a few fish when the lighting started popping. Had to get them in the boat and haul butt.
Enjoyed watching guys catch their first blue water fish.
Had nice dolphin hit the short flat but no one told her she did not weigh 50 pounds. Smoked a 30W. Ran deep, we thought we have a tuna. Turned out to be a very motivated cow.
Finally, I can’t give him to hard of a time but Chunky and I did out fish HoltOn and Charliehorse.![]()
