After some winter projects and a windy spring it was time to dust the ole Contender off and take her on her 2013 maiden voyage. Met Holt-On in Columbia where we loaded up in the fishing wagon. Trial run for the 1983 Tioga and after a 30 minute dos and don’ts from Holt-On Sr. we were on the road with his baby to Manning. She ain’t much to look at but for these mid week trips were sleep is so very important it was VERY nice to have.
Chunky and LnS Marine got an early start and splashed the All Rise before we got there. As usual I owe them one for doing all the prep work.
Picked up Greenhorn Guzman in Manning and off to the marina. Pross met us there and after a short nap it was time to roll!
Ride out was nice as we listened to the radio and let the autopilot do its thing. Lines in around 7.
Lns Marine was letting out the first rod. click, click, click, click, click… ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! FISH ON!!!
Boxed the first dolphin in the first 5 mins. Pretty steady action all day. Completed the meat fish slam with Guzman’s first ever wahoo at 8:09 am.
No major concentration of dolphin but steady action. Lots of 2 and 3 knock downs with a 4 here and there.
