The Judge had a commitment yesterday so Chunky and I had to either get a crew or find a ride. Well I got a call from a buddy that just bought a 31FA and needed a crew member and Chunky got a ride with one of our dive buddies on his 31 open. He grabbed Heywood and headed to GT, I left the upstate at 1:30am to meek up in Columbia to then ride to Chucktown. Ride out was nice. I caught up on some sleep before lines in north of the 380hole in 250ft. Got a hit as the first line went out through the long rigger. Picked at them pretty good for a couple hours then similar to last week the mid-day bite shut down. Bite started to pick up in the afternoon so did the forecasted seas. We made the call to pick up and run in before it got nasty.
Ended with 9 dolphin, 1 released due to yours truly and 0 for 1 on sails.
Chunky fished the GTH ended with 7 (i think) dolphin, 3 wahoo, and a sail. (Looks like i have taught him well over the years:wink:
)
Highlights:
Watching the sail hit the short (and I mean short) flat line then tail dance through the spread. Had him on for about 5 mins when the hook pulled
Had a quadruple knockdown and boxed 3
Biggest dolphin hit the long rigger and with a true team effort of angling, leadering, driving, and gaffing put is arse in the boat.
Running in, laying in the bean bag, watching the boats as we pass. Last 10miles or so got alittle sporty heard the F250s bark a couple of times. Sounds like Chunky’s ride was very similar, says they ran in at 45 even the snotty stuff. These were your typical WOT contender captains:smiley:
Left upstate a 1:30am back home at 10:15pm. Slept well last night.

I noticed his grin grew more and more as we came in, he kept pointing how small the specs on the horizon of the boats we just passed were.

Me too, they guy that picked up the rod seemed to keep having bad luck. He did absolutely nothing wrong but the fish would either spit the hook, one broke off, and the others were smaller fish. Really wanted to see him bring the sail to the boat. Oh well, still really cool to see it tail dance behing the boat. Would had have been a SWEET picture.
I also forgot to mention the LEHI bleeding dolphin was the hot bait for the day (again). Something about this time of year they seem to find that bait in the spread and attack it.

Scoutin I think what you meant to say was I taught you well:wink:, Yes my ride in was very quick we ran 44 mph all the way in even in the end when it was 5 footers the bow would disapear in a wall of water,and when we came out the other side in the flying contender the motors would bark, best riding 31 foot boat I gave ever ridden in, the salty dog will ride!
