Took a couple of the guys I work with along with their sons on their first trip offshore yesterday. The trip came together VERY quickly I called on Pross and with short notice he had rods rigged and we loaded the boat with gas and ice. We made plans for an Edisto Fisher type 1 day of fishing. (ANY fish:wink:) We talked about trolling but I was fearful that my crew may get bored with the slowing dolphin bite.
Met up with the work crew at 5:30 and the 7 of us headed out of GT. We were greeted with a beautiful ocean and ran effortlessly out to 115feet. Set up a drift and started boating some fish. Pross and I got everyone started and they caught on very quickly. Josh and Coop had the hot hands and were neck and neck in there fish off between one another. Then we really started to get into the BSB, B-liners, porgyies. As they fish started coming in 2 and 3 at a time I quit hearing “I have X number” and it turned to, I need the pliers, need some bait, open the fish box, etc. They were having a blast. Ended up filling the boxes and caught quite the assortment. Released probably twice as many was we kept. You would have never known they were greenhorns to the blue water.
Ended with and assortment of:
Dolphin
red grouper
Red porgy
b liner
BSB
triggers
gag
scamp
rock hind
rock bass
grunts
Amber jack
barracudas
a bent anchor
a broken rod
and 7 worn out guys!
Looks like I have a few new crew members for next time we go. Nice to have someone in the upstate I can call on. I enjoyed watching them have a good time more than I did catching fish.
Highlights:
Pross diving in after a scamp came unglued right at the top. Tore his shirt off like superman and dove in. As soon as he hit the water and grabbed the fish he swam straight back to the boat with out the fish and eyes the size of pie plates. We all yelled go get him! Apparently he was not the only thing in the water interested in Bill’s Scamp. A big shark was also eyeing him. Pross let him have it.

For the record your dumb dog bit the rod in the rod holder while they were preparing to get washed. If you would feed him he would not feel obligated to eat dryed out squid.
If you call bumping the bottom with the very tip of the skeg in a channel that you your self have way points on how to run that has drastically changed this year is called running the boat a ground then yes I beached her…
I heard all the trash talking you and Pallet have been doing. Sounds like yall need to take a day off and go fishing to me you grumpy farts!
