Okay, I didn’t get much ■■■■■■■■ on my question about a Shimano Voltaeus rod so no wI am looking at a different one. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge about the All-Star ASR spinning rods? Looking at putting a Symetre 3000 on one.
Thanks

Definitely a fan. They’re grips are great and so are the actions.

I have 2 of them and highly recommend them. I fish a 6’6" medium action, 6-17lb. I love mine and they have performed flawlessly. I have a Sahara 4000 on one and a Symetre 3000 on the other. A great setup. Only difference is mine are Team All-Star. Maybe just an older model.

Any big difference between a 6’6" and a 7’?..besides 6"? I guess my question is, any reason to o 7’ over 6"6"?
Longer rod has some benefits when fishing a popping cork and casting. I would get the longer rod. If you don’t like it, I’ll trade you a 6’6" for it.

Sounds good, thanks Texas
they are not as good as they used to be.
look at a Falcon …
i have the 7 foot ‘twitch bait’ model matched with a 3000 stradic…caught reds, trout, sheeps, spanish…whatever. sensitive tip but still decent backbone to get a fish out of structure…broke one about 2 months ago at the tip, walked into CA mt pleasant with it, and walked out with a new one (no charge)…that definitely works for me! All of my other rods are Lommis’ and i like the all star just as much as my others…

i have one i purchased from hadrell’s. love it. i did have a insert on one of the guides come out the first time out, but no problems since.
Ive got about a 5 yr old Allstar (AS DSSP 701M)and a 2 yr old Shimano Clarus, both 7’. I like the sensitivity of both, but the Allstar wasn’t balanced as well. I added some weight to the butt which solved the problem, but now it is considerably heavier. You can feel it on days when you make alot of casts. I seem to like my Shimano better these days, but I also have a much nicer reel on it (Quantum BocaPT40 vs Stratus ST30 on the Allstar). I think if you put your reel on it and like the feel of it, either rod would be a good choice. I’ve caught plenty of trout and reds with both.
As for 6’6" vs 7’…I’ve had both, and all my newest rods are 7’. Generally speaking a longer rod will cast further, but less accurately than a shorter one. There are many other factors to consider, but distance is my top priority. I can’t tell much difference in accuracy, but the 7 footer casts noticeably further. I think my next rod will be 7’6" - 8’, for the times when I really need to get some distance on my casts. I would never get a rod under 7’ again, unless it was on a really light setup. just my 2 cents though.
