All Star rods

I’ve been shopping around for a decent spinning rod to cut my teeth on fishing artificials. I came across an All Star jerk shad rod this morning clearanced out to $29.99. I’m pairing it up with a Shimano Sahara 3000 and was wanting to hear some thoughts on the set up from some seasoned inshore guys.

I have an All-star (not sure what model)with a Shimano Symetre on it. Early on, the last 4" or so broke off catching a 20+" red. I was able to get a replacement for free as it was only about 6 months old. It is a little stiffer than I like but overall a pretty decent rod. Especially for that price.

Yeah, for $30 it was a little hard to pass up. It feels more like a medium power rod, compared to other rods I’ve been looking at. Hopefully I can test it out next weekend and see how it holds up.

No offense meant, but in general a seasoned inshore guy couldn’t put “a decent fishing rod” and “$29.99” together in the same sentence

That’s fair, the list price $69.99, I’m sure someone who is accustomed to fishing a +$200 St. Croix or G.Loomis would still scoff at the idea of such a POS rod touching their flesh. I would have thought the “cutting my teeth on artificials” would have been an indicator that I am pretty new to fishing saltwater. My first shotgun wasn’t a Benelli but I still would ask older, more seasoned hunters their opinion of an entry level gun.

Like I said, no offense meant. I’ve never used an All Star rod. Just speaking in general terms of price to quality. Trust me, I’ve used my share of K-mart rods. They all catch fish, some just a little better than others :sunglasses:

No problem Larry, I don’t live on the coast and apart from a week in June and in July, I’m only able to make it down 5 or 6 times a year. I’m just trying to pick up what I can from where ever I can.

You must have been at academy. If so,that is a good rod for the price and in my opinion a good one for learning artificals on. . I got a spinner bait one at academy that was 29.99, but they had several different styles. Now is doesnt perform like my high end rods but for 30 bucks it will do just fine. I really didnt need the rod at all but you can never have too many fishing poles, right. Might as well have a rod for spinner baits specifically.

ANY All Star rod you can buy at 30 is a steal. I love my All Star rod that I bought for a casting reel and it is over 5 years old now. You got a real deal!

You have to realize that NO ONE ever caught a fish before all the latest technology came to market. Except, that guy that walked on water and the "Internet Experts".

Get the rod you can afford and learn from it. Your second saltwater rod purchase will suit you better based on YOUR experience. But, it looks like you already have this website figured out pretty well.
