Aluminum wheels on a boat trailer

I’ve got a question for the CF.com brain trust…my 03 model galvanized boat trailer fenders are rusting so I’m gonna upgrade to some diamond tread aluminum fenders…also thinking about replacing my galvanized wheels with some nicer aluminum wheels…how will the salt water affect the aluminum wheels and fenders ? Will I need to rinse them with fresh water after trips to the salt ? Thanks in advance.

IMO, anything that has been in or near salt water should be rinsed well. Wheels, fenders, trailer, boat, gear, rods & reels, truck, dogs, and so on.

Personally, for what you spend vs what you get (bling), I would not spend $ on aluminum wheels if I was using it in saltwater. Just my .02, don’t anyone get upset.

Get them. They look good. Last as long as galvanized and aren’t that expensive. We don’t need aluminum reels but we buy them because they are better. Graphite work just fine and are cheaper. You won’t regret the wheels. Just keep clean

My boat trailer came with some nice aluminum wheels when I bought the boat. A little flashier than my style, but they look good and came with it so I can’t complain. I’m on my 3rd year and they still look brand new, but I’m pretty meticulous with the boat and every inch of the boat/trailer gets a bath every time it gets close to the water.

aluminum wheels should be no more of an issue than an aluminum trailer
