just out of curiosity am i about the only one that goes up the tailrace canal for shad in a yak? ive seen 2 others in there before that were still a ways from the dam when i was paddling back but am yet to see another kayak with me once i anchor at the dam and tow back a stringer of fish.
You’re not the only one who wants to. You’re the only one hard core enough to do it.

I fish up that way but I have it is always in the lakes. I have only shad fished a couple of times but it has always been from the boat. The possibility of trophy bass always has my headed to the lake when I am yakkin.
When I got my first kayak, I went to the tailrace canal for the very first trip…slimed the kayak with a catfish.
But as far as shad goes, there might be a couple of us up there this weekend looking for 'em…

LOL!!! thats one of a couple reasons i always keep a rag on board
Folks always refer to the first fish in a new kayak as getting it ‘slimed’…but yeah, he literally slimed it too!
In fact Elgeebee and I might be going this Sunday…Anyone else?
oh gotcha i guess i slimed mine with a little bass in the base ponds although wrestling a blue into the yak definitely “slimes” it as well…as does catching a double shad and a quad herring. wish i could go sunday but im back on anything but normal hours.
My wife and yak up there. I think we may have talked to you a couple times. Onc I on our yaks and once we were boating.
looks like the who are the 2 others i saw before mystery is solved lol. sounds like you and your wife are the people i remember talking to and if ya didnt 100% remember me i have an olive green kayak and while in tailrace you will see a big landing net sticking up from 1 rod holder and a 10 foot surf/catfish rod from the other…occasionally towing back a catfish strung to the side. dunno when ill be out next since i got my turkey tags this year and i booked an offshore trip in late april but im sure to be back at least a couple times for catfish!
Yep, that was you. We went down there on easter and hooked up with some big cats and about 200 herring. Good luck on thr gobblers! Message me if you are going yakking down there sometime, I am game for going!
