Went out on the Amazing Grace on 5/17/08 with some friends. The ride out was kind of hairy but the seas started to lay down as the day progressed. First few fish were all amberjacks, so we picked up the pace a little to try and find some wahoo. While high speed trolling, we missed a couple really good fish (two pulled over 400 yards before spitting the hook). We end up catching a dolphin while highspeed trolling, something I did not think really happened, but not much else. As the day was coming to an end, we had a good knock down. I grabbed the rod and saw a dolphin jump in the distance. At the time it looked kind of small, but he pulled like hell. As I got the fish to the boat, we see that it is a nice fish. Then he starts pulling out all of the tricks. First, it was several changes in direction, followed by a few jumps and with everyone’s favorite closer, trying to run to the motors. Finally landed the fish got him in the box. Once he stopped kicking we snapped a few pics. The only scales we had bottomed out at 30 and he was well over that. Anyone care to guess how much he weighed? We never could come to an agreement on it’s weight.
Days totals: 2 Dolphin and several reef donkeys

A 67+ pounder Mahi was brought into Savannah on Sunday. It may tie or set the Georgia new Mahi record. A 50+ pounder was brought in a few weeks ago. There are some big Mahi out there this year, but no Yellow fin tuna.
Hey I caught one a couple weeks ago that was 60 inches and 53lbs and this one doesnt look much smaller if at all. Got pics on here of it too. So I would say youre all over the 50# mark. Congrats on that, nice fish.

All of the pictures? Is that what you meant?
Neither of mine went over 40 on the real life scale.
Thanks everyone! And to think I was telling the guys I thought it weighed 33lbs. They told me I was off. It appears as though Tails was the closest out of all of our estimations. Regardless of the exact weight, it is by far the largest dolphin I have ever had the pleasure of reeling in. I will defer to the largest number given for any future accountings of the capture of this fish:smiley:! Oh yeah, he tasted GREAT:stuck_out_tongue:!
