Merry Christmas, everyone! (PC be durned)! Has anyone in the reading group been to AC and if so, please reply with info and tips. Also, must do’s or dont’s; where you stayed, general vibe, and would you do it again? We LOVE to snorkel so this is the attraction. Thanks in advance, Mike.
Check your PM.

We went on our honeymoon. Stayed at Banyan Bay, would stay there again. There are nicer places, but it suited us just fine.
Fished with Ramon Guererro. Booked our trips out of the dive shack behind the resort. Highly recommend this guide. More bonefish than you can shake a rod at.
Hol-Chan (sp?) & shark ray alley was cool for snorkeling. We fished 5 days and snorkeled 1. We did not know Belize as a diving destination, only as a fishing destination. Never met another angler or saw anyone else out on a flat. Everyone we met was there to dive.
Do a day trip to a Mayan ruin.
Rent a golf cart for the duration of your stay.
Go to the north side of the island (via hand-pulled ferry) and check out Jimmy Buffet’s and Paul Allen’s house. You can definitely tell them apart.
I was there in Mar. 06. Stayed at Banana Beach. I second Ramon, excellent guide, fishing is outstanding as is the diving. I would go back in a heartbeat. It ia a very laid back safe island. There is a good forum about AC, don’t have a link but you can google it.

been there twice…stayed at the mata chica resort…was very satisfied…not alot of people, but service is awesome…they have a great concierge service that can arrange anything you could possibly want to do…you can use a free kayak, use free snorkling gear, use free fishing gear, and paddle right out to the reef, grab a lobster, catch some fish, and have the chef cook it for dinner. food is good. the rojo lounge is right next door, and the food there is amazing! they have their own boats that go into town (san padro) so you are not having to pay for a water taxi. alot of nice perks that alot of resort there do not have… not really a nightlife though, so it just depends on what you are looking for…

Thanks to everyone for their input and information. The resorts you mentioned are being looked at on TripAdvisor. Airfare is quite expensive from CHS but what’s new? We do not need any night life as snorkeling is our thing. A trip to a Mayan ruin might work as well. I am drawn to AC as it still seems a little laid-back compared to the rest of the Caribbean. Please keep the info flowing if you think of anything else. Oystercracker has been great with PM’s.

about the airfare…check fights from charlotte…it may be a longer drive but they fly non-stop to belize which should save money and sometimes time depending on the layover time in miami…

I have checked Charlotte and it is only $40.00 cheaper than CHS! Not worth it with driving and motel. C’mon Southwest. Even looked at Southwest to Houston, Houston to Belize. Nope. Plus, don’t forget the puddlejumper from BZE to SPR. I have very resonable lodging lined-up, it the (**()ed airfare!

thats suprising…when are you going? and where are you staying? yeah that paddlejumper flight is hair raising…when i went, they were wheeling the fuel out to the plane in a red rider wagon! and the “co-pilot” was a cute blonde 20 something year old…who ended up being a passenger…

Going 5/21- 5/28 and staying at Coral Bay Villas. Private condo with a pool, beach, and many amenities. Booked air last night, OUCH! Didn’t want to wait any longer due to this gas price thingy.
