Has anyone tried the Ambush kayak? It looks good but is it too heavy? Any info on it will be appreciated. By the way what kind of a load can it hold? Is it any good single hsnded.

Depends on what you do. If you use a trolling motor, it isn’t bad. I wouldn’t want to paddle one any great distance. You can stand in it and it will carry some gear. If you are hunting ducks, probably a good choice. If you are stalking reds, maybe another model might be right for you. What are you going to use it for?

My use would be mostly fishing. I weigh about 300#'s therefore I need a kayak that offers a lot of bouyancy. Any suggestions on other kayaks that would fit my needs would be appreciated.

I like my Tarpon by Wilderness Systems. I was 250 and could cruise at a pretty good clip with it. For a big man, this is a pretty good one. Where do you live? If in Charleston, call Marvin at Time Out Sports & Ski. They have a pond across the street and will let you try them. They carry the Wilderness Systems Tarpon and also Ocean Kayak models. 843-577-5979.

Hello again. Yes there are two dealers in Columbia. Adventure Carolina-796.4505 and River Runner Outdoor Center-771.0353. I am recovering from surgery, but if you want to try out my Tarpon, drop me a line. I am in Lexington, just five minutes from the lake. I would be happy to take you out for a test drive.

Mckee Boykin–The Ambush is a bit of a bear trying to handle it with only on person, but it is a great boat to paddle. If you got a small trailer it will help out alot. Ocean Kayak also makes a kayak called Drifter that is a lot more managable and provides plenty of stability sitting or standing with places to store things and keeep them dry, and if the drifter is still a little big and unmanagable they just brought out a line called the Capers that is a little shorter, I have not got to paddle one yet, but if its like the Drifter it will be worth every penny.
It’s called Fishing, not Catching!
