tried the pogy pods again and this time did much better with not getting leaders chomped after i upped to 58lb. i got to the beach and immediately saw tarpon and dolphins busting bait, so in i went and started paddling out, but of course by the time i get out they stop busting. i get up to a school and throw the snagging hook and catch a sail cat again to no surprise. school disappears and i keep trolling frozen menhaden. after about an hour and a half of paddling and considering whiting fishing the rod goes of and up comes sail cat #2. by this time the tide was turning and i sa a lot more action near the river mouth. i get near a busting school and after a few minute battle pull up a 4 foot finetooh shark. minutes later up comes a 3.5 foot blacktip. paddling around to catch up to the school i nearly run into a 4 - 5 foot tarpon that surfaced just in front of me only to feel a thud under me seconds later. im down to 2 more frozen menhaden ad pick up anothers mall blacktip and then a 4.5 foot blacktip. all in all i got towed about a mile from the beach, caught 4 sharks and 2 sail cats and had enough paddling, so called it a day. one of the funner trips ive had recently!

reeling in the finetooth

We use to have them in SC, catch them all the time, some kind of virus wiped out the population. Now if you catch one you have to release per DNR.

Thanks, didn’t think of that when I read it. Its been since I was real small since I’ve seen one of those, actually forgot about them.

i just bought a gopro3 silver edition. sail cats are unregulated down here and can be caught no problem bottom fishing especially inshore. disappointed i didnt get the shot of the tarpon directly in front of me, but i bought a spare battery to fix that problem!
