Amendment 16 is purported to be an up and coming Federal regulation change that is intended to reduce catch of vermillion snapper by about 67% and gag grouper catch by 37%. In other words, 10 per person vermillion could go to 3 per person, and gags… ?? Either boat limits or 1 per person bag limit. Or worse. This is why comments are needed.

Looks like the recs are going to take it in the back door again. They think the recs. and comms. are one community and they’ll just end up taking the catch away from the recs. as always.

The Council is in a tight spot having been notified by NOAA Fisheries that both species are undergoing overfishing. By law, we have 12 months to submit a plan to end overfishing. If we do not, then my best guess is the Sec. of Commerce would implement the regulations.
If it is possible to have additional data made available and a new age-based assessment can be done before our deadline, then I will certainly push to have that done. If not, I will try to minimize the impact on both the recreational and commercial communities.

Reply to him again and make it personal. The others too when they reply. Keep pestering them. It is easier to so what we can now.

I sent a personalized letter to all of those who can have input on this decision and got the same reply from Mac Currin.
His reply was better than some even if he is sending the same exact reply to everyone.
Please write and stop this from happening. 3 vermillion snapper per day, 1 gag grouper will be devastating to the head boats and make bottom fishing pretty much not worth the time.
3 vermillion, 1 grouper, 3 pinkies and grunts would be about all that you are allowed to keep under this plan.
BTW the stock assessment was done based on a 100 fish survey. 100 fish!?!? We catch more than that on each drop most times.
Poor science, not peer reviewed and no realistic review of alternatives. Ask them to vote for no action until a real stock assessment can be done.
