Take a close look at Alternative 3a that the SAFMC is proposing. In short, they want to lump BSB, Bliners and pinkies into the 20 fish aggregate that currently is triggers, white grunts, jolt heads etc. I sent them an email and asked if this passed would the aggregate limit be increased beyond 20 fish. The response was no the limit stands at 20. This means you lose the separate limit for BSB, B-liners and pinkies. Bottom fisherman basically could only catch 20 fish apiece other than grouper and you lose 15 fish person as far as limits go. Not even worth going and that is their plan.

I’ll be honest, I don’t have a huge problem with this. 3 guys, 60 finfish. Seems like enough.
Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

We need to get out of the SAFMC. I’ve written a letter to Gov McMaster requesting that SC DNR be given the reigns and to dis SAFMC.
I’m attending a fund raiser tonight and will deliver it personally. If you have thoughts you want me to give him, send what you want to me at gc29180 on gmail. I’ll hand it to him.</font id=“size2”></font id=“black”></font id=“Arial Black”>

Of course the shareholders that are on the board want to regulate what recreational fishermen catch. The system is screwed!

theres another one in the pipeline - Rec fisher reporting is coming to an ocean near you! What do you think of being required to report every trip you make - where you fished and what you caught. They are stripping away our freedoms. My position is that the SAFMC is no longer about protecting fish from overfishing. That was accomplished when the huge parcels of ocean were closed to fishing - MPA’s . Notice that the fishes protected in the MPA’s are not counted into the SAFMC biomass numbers? Its like those numbers don’t exist
So what is behind the reduction in red drum retention going from 3 to 2? Recreational fishing pressure. How come no one is screaming about that?

BB: I screamed, wrote letters… SC DNR has the legislature sewn up. Ask Goldfinch what happened here. I for one do not believe he was making good on his promise to protect recreational fisherpeople. But look at the votes… it was almost unanimous in the house and senate. DNR put on a good show.

SAFMC covers Federal Waters from 3 to 200 miles out. How do you expect South Carolina to have any weight in governing what happens in Federal Waters? Seems like a real stretch for any state to take over Federal waters management but…

My request to the Governor was/is that SC DNR make enforcement decisions for all recreational fisherpeople’s catch without regard to SAFMC’s regulations.
