Anchor help

I just bought a 14.5’ Native Magic and am outfitting it for fishing. I live in the mts. and will use it for river fishing here, but I also spend a lot of time in the low country red, trout, and flounder fishing. Anybody got any recommendations on how to rig up an anchor system? Bow, stern, compression cleat, anchor type, weight etc.?
I usually drag my whaler to the coast, but gas $ sucks. I am really jazzed about this boat and can’t wait. Thanks guys.

You could probably modify the Hobie anchor trolly system for use with your boat since its not hull specific…

Its only 29.95 online and works with anchors and stakeout poles to allow you to set your boat facing the way you want to go.

That same link above also has the hobie anchor kit which is 39.95 online and is a 3lb anchor, bag, and 60 foot of line.

of course you can always do things much cheaper by making a sharp pointy stick you just tie off in your boat, but those systems are nice so thought Id mention them

Here is a link to the parts list and installation instructions for the trolly kit

Home made anchor trolley is a piece of cake. You can make it as simple or as elaborate as you like. Mine is very simple.

It consists of a pad eye and ring at each end of the yak, a piece of cord 2x length of the yak plus about 8 inches and a caribiner.
Install pad eyes with rings
run rope though rings
tie a bowline or other end loop in each end of cord
clip loops to caribiner
Go Fishing:smiley: total cost <$5

You simply drop anchor, tie off, clip anchor rode into the caribiner and adjust for bow, stern or anywhere in between.
You can make a nice jam cleat for your anchor rode from small diameter PVC pipe.

Notes:
Nylon paracord (aka 550 cord) is smaller diameter and lighter than what I show in the pic
you can have smoother action by replacing the rings with pulleys. I didn’t need them for my application.

So much water, So little time

Thanks guys, I’m on it.

tdechs,
Hope you like the boat. I love fishing out of mine. Drop me a line next time you get down to the low country, maybe we can hook up.
