Anchor Line Qwershon

With 21’ Center Console, Loaded weight near 3,000 lbs est. Will be basically inshore for the near future. How much anchor line would I normally need to hold around the jetties or 50-60’ depth. What is prudent…as much as the locker will hold? Seems like a guide told me once we had about 100’ out while fishing on the Hump. Wasn’t planning on less than 150’ but wasn’t sure what the prudent mariners thought about this.
tia!

Id use whatever Fritz uses.

Anchor and chain should be as long as the boat your anchoring. Consider using a plow type anchor - I have a stack of bent Danforth anchors. I wouldn’t go offshore with much less than 300’ of rope. if you lose power and its rough you will need 3x the depth or more to hold

You will be good in most conditions carrying 150ft rode, 8ft heavy chain, and a 8lb Danforth style. This combo will hold you majority of places and currents inshore/nearshore.

Cracker Larry turned me onto a claw anchor rigged for breakaway and it has never let me down.

Pick up a drift sock (sea anchor) for an emergancy!

8’ of chain and an 8# anchor? I run 25’ of 3/8 and a 13# just for my small boat if I am anywhere near the ocean. Winyah bay, or the jetties. People underestimate how fast that water moves. That setup will not hold a 21’ boat.

I’ve always heard 10’ of rope for every foot of water.

Depth X 3 in moderate conditions 3’ 4’ 12 KT wind. But we’re fishing and need to be on top of the fish without a lot of swing. Increase the chain to the boat length , claw or plow type anchor bigger than you’d use inshore, then you don’t need as much rope to hold.

Bigger, heavier chain is a good thing. You won’t need as much scope in current with heavy chain,
