went out to bottom fish this past weekend, was a little choppy and had trouble getting the boat situated over structure, a friend told me he usually just keeps drifting across the area. whats everyones prefered way to fish? if you anchor, what is the best way to get over the structure?, with wind, waves and tides it took me half the day to get where i wanted. i usually fish the artificial reefs
Sometimes it can be pretty a bit tricky. Once you find the live bottom mark it on your GPS and take the boat out of gear. This way you can see where the wind, waves, etc are going to take you. Look at your compass and see what your heading is. Then circle back around and go the exact opposite of the heading you previously had. Go straight back over your spot, go about 200ft past it and throw out your anchor. The conditions should take you straight back (if you look at your compass right) over the bottom you are trying to fish. You may have to let anchor line in/out in order to get perfectly over your spot. Hope all that made sense. I explained it the best I could.
