Hey folks,
I’m looking for advice on making an anchoring system for my boat.
I want to keep my anchor attached at the bow, but I’d like to be able to pull it up from the back of the boat. My son (4yrs old) sits at the bow and isn’t strong enough to pull it. I’m trying to avoid crawling over him to pull up the bow anchor in current.
My best thought so far was to leave the anchor attached as it is (tied up at the front), but put a second 15’ long rope with a stainless steel ring on the end of it that slides up and down the anchor line. When I want to pull the anchor, I pull on the secondary rope, and the stainless steel ring will act as a pulley. This would allow me to pull the anchor rope back to me. I could keep the anchor sitting in the rear of the boat with me.
The only problem I find with this system is having a second rope always in the water (fish tangles), and perhaps the difficulty of getting the pull started if the ring is sitting too close to the bow (no leverage).
Thoughts?
Drift boats drop the anchor off of the up stream end via a few pulleys. Would be straight forward to emulate that setup. See Clacker craft and similar.

I’ve thought about a pulley, and may do that in time. I think finding a corrosion-resistant pulley might be costly though. Would be nice just to pull up the anchor, tie it off in the back, and let it ride up front on the pulley while I’m underway.
What about one of those old hand crank anchor systems that were popular when I was a kid. Has a brake in it that you release with a knob that you turn. You could mount the crank in the back of the boat and the anchor up on the bow. My dad had one one his old jon boat.
Worth Anchormate is what I’m talking about. It works with a mushroom style anchor.

Find a older boat at a junk yard that had cable sterring the pullys are plastic and the hardware is SS, will work great! also consider gluing small pcs of 1/2 " pvc along the inside rub rail to rout the rope and keep it out of the way .Try polyurathane calk wil hold on alu or fg
An old salvage ss pulley is a great idea.
If you mainly fish shallow , cajun anchors are good. Just put the boat in reverse til it breaks free
i made this up but i think it’s true
I had the Anchormate on one of my boats and they work good, especially if you’re fishing in shallow water

consider a cam cleat. its available from A sail shop many different sizes. Just run line thru after setting anchor then pull up when you want to leave. You could just get a stick it if you are fishing shallow.
