We fished Joulters Cay for 3 days last week. Just wanted to share a few pictures. Fishing was awesome. My buddy and i caught about 40 bones over those 3 days. Lots of double hook ups in schools of 200 to 300. Fished averaged in the 5 to 6 pound range with a half dozen that were 7 or 8 pounds. A few were smaller. Probably saw about 5000 bones over those 3 days. They were freaking everywhere.
My dad and his friend went too but they only caught a couple. Sad as they are now getting too old to walk the distances needed to get to the fish here.
Glassy ride out
one of the many deep channels connecting the flats.
one of the many flats that went on for miles. You can see my friend in the distance.
my guide not knowing how to work a camera took a short video of this fish.
my buddy snapped his 6wt trying to high stick this fish. Wish I could have got a picture of him hand lining it but I was busy with my own fish. landed mine and took this shot.
fresh conch for dinner
Dinner for our guide. He had no where to put this cuda so we told him he better kill that su
shevlin,

Sweet trip…
Nice fat Bones…
Flats look like Acklins.
Long walks for sure. The first
flat I was on we turned around,
and where’s the skiff…
Really not a day has gone by that
I have not thought about going back.
Awesome Man, just Awesome…
You’ll be thinking about that for a Long time…
My wife and I are heading down to Andros on Wednesday. We are staying at Kamalame Cay. I am fishing Joulters on Friday and Saturday. Cant wait. Your pictures look awesome. Any tips for a first time bone fishing trip. I am long time fly fisher but new to the bones.

Just don’t wear any USC gear so you don’t spook the fish.
Nice!!! Should have seen that coming… When you fish Joulter’s, is it predominately wading? Ive got flats boots? Im taking a 7-8wt and a 9 wt loomis. Is there any need to take a 6wt just for fun? I have bought some gotchas and other recommeded flies, but I assume that my guide will have most of what I need. I have 9’ 12lb leaders and 8,10, and 12lb flouro tippet. I am gonna take my orvis shoulder pack. How were the bugs? Do I need zipper pants or are shorts fine? What is a good $ tip for the guide? WHere did you stay? Were staying at Kamalame Cay.

great questions, sorry for the last response.
I took a 6wt and a 8wt. When the wind is down in the morning the 6wt is a lot of fun.
Doctor Flies…lots of them and they freaking hurt. Long pants are the ticket.
Boots, i don’t wear them. Probably should because it could ruin your trip if you get cut on sometiming, but the joulters are all sand flats and there are not many urchins, rocks or coral etc etc.
Its all wading. The high tides are not until October when you can do most of your fishing from the boat.
I fished small crazy charlie patterns (pink) most of the time and they worked great. Not sure about your guide, but we had to bring everything with us.
We stayed at a really cheap Inn called Dayshell. $60 a night, rooms were subpar but the people are fantastic and we have gotten to know them well. I can’t afford Kalmamle.
OK… So the Doctor Flies suck!!! I had blood running down all parts of my legs. Its hard to fish when you are constantly swatting at those bugs. Luckily, after I asked, my guide handed me some 3M bug spray that had 19% Deet. I am trying to find it online. Sprayed it on my legs and rubbed it in. The flies vanished. We had a great time. I fished the 9wt with mostly gotchas with pretty good luck. Ran into two water spouts at the Joulters though… Same day. I will post some pictures later this week. My largest fish was about 4.5 lbs. Not the trophy that I was looking for but had a great time. I am new to saltwater fly fishing but have to say that I am hooked. Would love to hit a flat in charleston sometime when I am down.
