Catching a Spade in the Ocean on light tackle is like catching a Big Redbreast in the swift current of the Edisto on an ultralight… both are a thrill to Catch! Nice Job!
DFree - a min of 30 ft; Capers and 4KI reefs, for example. Yes they are edible and quite good, but only fresh. I’d bet that almost all that go in the freezer and then thawed get thrown out. For that reason its good to keep just a few and throw the rest back.
Never been out that far from Charleston, may have to find a good weather day and give it a shot. I am perfectly happy catching and releasing just about any species but the wife does love fresh fish so it is always a bonus when I can take her a couple home.

doesn’t get any better on a light trout rod and reel. I don’t know who that is, I actually had some good Shovels and Rope (get it? ) cued up but Vimeo won’t let you use commercial music on your videos. So I had to search around for some passable music that has distribution rights. Music for videos is a pain in the arse.
Spade fishing is one of my favorite things to do. I don’t go as often as I would like. They eat well and make great fish dip too.
Fish Dip:
Equal parts of cream cheese, mayo, and fish smoked with your favorite flavor wood or blackened (usually a little more fish to get the texture right).
Salt and pepper to taste
Green onion.
This works with all types of fish. You can add additional ingredients if you like but this simple recipe is great. Don’t knock it until you try it.
