planning a trip to anna maria in june of 09. 5 couples and we are bringing a boat. looking for a rental and any info that would be useful. thanks.

Here’s a place we stay as often as we possibly can. There are only 28 units at this resort with 8 of them 1 bedroom gulf front. We’ll be there for 13 nights in May ‘09. The photos below were taken from the condo we stayed in and right outside the door at sunset. Our door was less than 200 ft’ from the Gulf of Mexico. There’s a marina on the northeast end of the island just off Tampa Bay. The fishing in this area is terrific to say the least. I’m sure there are some large houses that would be suitable for 5 couples if thats what you’re looking for. Some of them have docks so you can leave your boat in the water. There are actually 3 towns on the island, Anna Maria, Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach. Google maps shows good detail of the island if you to want check out the addresses of the rentals listed.

thanks taz! thats some great info right there. being a die hard surfer, im not a big gulf coast person(usually flat except right now w/ ike) but im thinking this is gonna be nice. we are taking a 26’ sea pro so something w/ a dock would be the deal.thanks again.

Some days are better than others. One day the Gulf will be smooth as a lake with waves lapping up only a few feet from shore and the next will be as rough as the Atlantic gets. Take day and fish the rockpiles near the old Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay from your boat. You can catch King, Tarpon, Gag Grouper, Barracuda, Permit and several species of snapper in the bay. You can catch plenty of bait around the old bridge which was turned into a fishing pier. The east side of the pier has been closed so you can get bait there without running into somone’s line from the pier. There’s a link at the bottom that shows photos of the rockpiles that are made up of debris from the old Skyway Bridge spans that were torn down.
