Left Shem Creek at 0500 and ran straight out. Started in 350 ft around some scattered weeds and had a nice bull on pretty much right away. It was slow for the next hour so we picked up and pushed further out in search of some tighter weed lines. Ran across a patch that turned into a nice weed line at about 500-600 ft. Got lines out and within minutes had 5 hooked up, dolphin flying everywhere, absolute mayhem. Four of us with five rods going off and no one man the wheel. Something big was on the down rod which was a cowbell, ended up pulling the hook 10-15 minutes in. We got 4 gaffers in the boat with one of them being a nice 20-22lb bull. For the next couple hours we drifted and had a school all around the boat. We picked them off with squid on circle hooks until they stopped eating. Wouldn’t touch any top water plugs or artificials. Back at the dock by 1:00 with about 20 mostly all gaffers with a few slingers mixed in.
I’d take that all day long!

We had a 16oz lead on the leader to get it down a little further. We weren’t running any downriggers. It was the only bait that was not on the surface.
Nice fish and nice report. No telling what was on the down low…
