Another Bay Boat

I know this has been discussed earlier regarding Seafox and I know some people are aginst them. I have seen more and more people speaking more highly of them recently and wondering if I should go with this 180XT. Anyone own one of these and have opinions to share? Was looking at Carolina skiff jvx 18 but don’t know if I should just step up and get a little more boat??? Thanks

You will have a lot smoother ride and stay a little more dry in the Seafox.

You know, my SeaFox is a not new, but I love it. It’s not a Shearwater, but hey, for the money I spent, I couldnt be happier. Nice dry ride, handles the shallows well and plenty of fishability. I have a 21 footer with a 150hp. If possible, I would go as large in HP as you can get.

My neighbor has a SeaFox and I think its a very good boat… and his is an ‘older’ one, before the redesign

I have never been in one but am also considering purchasing a used Carolina Skiff the 1765 DLX model. Everyone seems to comment on the rough and wet ride you get in them. Is it really much of an issue when fishing the back rivers here in the low country? I will obviously test drive one before making the investment, but just wanted to get some ■■■■■■■■ from some of you more experienced captains.

I used to own the classic J16 and recently upgraded to flats boat. In hindsight I would say don’t worry about the ride too much. When things were choppy I just eased off the throttle a bit, no big deal. In the larger picture you probably will probably just make shorter runs in the skiff and really get to learn that area. Guys w/ bigger/faster/drier boats often run further just because they can, w/ no better results. That’s what I seem to be doing now.

appreciate the thoughts its tough to decide but I think Sea Fox might be it I just didnt know anyone who has been in one since I believe 2012 is the first year they make the 180xt but the 200xt is getting a bit more up there in price even though it is awesome…

If you are gonna spend some tens of thousands of $$$ on a toy, I’d suggest doing a little research.
Fully hand laid?
Any structural wood?
Fully foam filled?
Glass lay up schedule vs competative brands?
Etc.

I have no idea how Seafox puts their hulls together. But, I’d make sure whatever I bought was a high quality build.

nice do you know if he has taken it for a ride at all? they actually dont want that much more for the 200 which has way more storage including forward deck storage for cast net, larger rod storage, 2 aft boxes, and the forward seat back opens to access wiring and also locks, it keeps getting harder but duncan has a 1901 trophy I wana look at too looks like a good deal. Isnt that basically a Sea Pro?

Dawgfish09,
I realize this thread is a little old, but I found it doing the Google. Did you ever pull the trigger on the XT?

Dawgfish doesn’t matter if the water is glass c. skiffs are rough and when you take turns you will get wet if not seated behind the window.

hey just saw this by chance but actually yeah I did go with the 200XT. Are you lookin at one? I have enjoyed it and definately dry. have had wife and kid out to jetties many times and no water in or on us. would love to go farther out but kid is still really small but I would definately go farther out. It gets really a lot more shallow than I would have ever imagined. let me know if you need more info

Dawgfish,
Sent you a PM. Thanks!
