My wife and I were off on the same day last week, Thurs. Despite the heat, we planned on heading out for an afternoon/evening of fishing. We had everything ready to go on the boat, went through our check list; life jackets, fishing gear, working vhf?check?.motor?..(**()?wouldn’t turn over!!
I spent over an hour in the heat trying to figure out what was wrong. Eventually decided to give up and take it in to Charleston Marine. I dropped it off around 3:30 on Thurs, explained to them the problem and their initial quick assessment was a bad fuse. I said?.nah?couldn’t be I checked that! Left them the boat and the service manager, Tripp, said he would call and let me know what they found out during the diagnosis. Friday afternoon, less than 24 hrs from dropping it off, Tripp called to tell me that they identified the problem and it should be fixed ready for pick-up before they close on Friday! I couldn’t get there before they closed, so first thing (and I do mean first thing) Saturday morning I was at their gate. Boat was ready and took it home and we were back in the water by 10:30! too embarrassed to mention what the problem was!
Thanks to Chris V. and Charleston Marine?..Quick service done correctly!!

I bet I can guess… starts with kill, and ends with switch. If not that, then don’t feel bad, most of us have tried to crank our boats up in gear and all get the same results.
I wouldn’t get too upset whatever it was, all of us have done the same things. It’s part of owning a boat.

great to see you again Saturday morning
glad to be able to help, and that it was something simple.
don’t worry if you don’t want to tell anyone that the battery cable wasn’t making a good connection, I wont tell anyone either.

btw, that’s not really anything to be embarrassed about, its not like you forgot to install the kill switch like I did on a customers boat once and was trying to test run the motor, and couldn’t get it to start. (at least it wasn’t a Yamaha I was working on, yamahas have the alarm sound the entire time you are trying to crank it, if the kill switch has been removed)

AWWWW CHRIS!!! now you’ve done it!! A clear violation of mechanic, customer vow of silence, a violation of the HIPA regulations!! I’m never returning to your place of business again!!

I lost a good purse at a BASS Tx years ago on a kill switch mishap! Learned a lot real quick, and was so proud of my new boat!
