My wife and I are planning an overnighter at Capers in late Oct. The tides are going to be in the 5.4 range. My 1st question is would paddling against the current on a tide in the 5.4 range through the inlet between Dewees and Capers be doable ? #2 Are there signs letting you know how far up the beach you are allowed to camp ?

Either way you go its a long paddle. Use google maps to check your distance and the dnr site should have all you need to know about camping out there. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/mlands/specregshp.html
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. </font id=“size2”> Hobie Adventure Kayak </font id=“size2”>
I have it mapped out from IOP marina to where we would like to camp on the south end is 5.6 miles, from the landing on Gasdenville Rd. 3.5 miles. From Gasdenville is the route we are taking. What I ment by 5.4’ range is the high tide. The current will be weaker than a 7.0’ tide. I hoping it won’t be too bad paddling through the inlet against the current say about 2 hours or so before high tide.

In my opinion, the current is not a big factor, especially in that range. I would be more concerned with the weather/wind (stay near the shore). If ya’ll got the right gear and in decent physical shape -no problem and nice paddle.
I’ve camped there lots and the dnr guy is cool, especially with kayakers. His big deal is people leaving trash.
Careful of Gadsdenville ldg. Personally, I would park my truck near main rd and not leave anything in it. If ya’ll are launching there, definetly consider a little creek behind the north end… pro-tip! (very sweet for privacy and kayaks)
pm me, if you want more info.
I’m thinking about going out there for an overnight on the 10th. I would like to anchor my boat in that little creek on the north end. The boat is a gheenoe so it’s small and minimal draft. For anyone who has been out there, does this seem like a reasonable plan. Can you access the beach easily from the little creek? Thanks.
Last 2 hours of a 5.4 should be a breeze. Last hour flow will be almost no existant.
Cutmullet offered 2 pro tips. creek and watch the weather / wind. You don’t want to go for a swim by accident. Paddle near to shore but at least 1 or 2 swells outside the breakers so that an odd wave doesn’t surprise you.
