I just had Bob make me a rack/bracket for my boat to hold a standard 9’ patio umbrella. Absolutely impressed with his work and, in my mind, a more than fair price. If you need any aluminum work done, he’s the man. I am already thinking of my next project for him. Oh also, he’s a good guy to talk to. Thanks Bob.

Bob,
I have a Sea Hunt 234 Ultra and would like to have a removable ski tow bar. Can that be done? I say ski tow but really just want to pull tubes so maybe that needs to be a bit stronger?? Not sure about that but maybe I am. I really don’t want to use one of those harnesses with the float on it.
thanks
Looks good, Bob. That bow boarding railing is interesting. I think that several European countries make that mandatory. They actually make you put part of it permanently attached to the bow of the boat. (?) Anyway, good looking and well thought out work.

I’ve made a couple of removable ski tows in the past. It really depends on the boat and being able to thru bolt at the mounting points. no matter what you are pulling, the stress on the tow and the boat is amazing. When we were building them for Sea Pro, The engineers figured out the amount of stress with a 175-200lb. person. It came out to be something like 1300 lbs. of pull on the boat/ ski tow. We did pull tests with a fork lift and a scale. The first few we did at a 45 degree pull, crushed the fiberglass and coring material on the back of the boat. Not the transom, but the horizontal surfaces that we mounted to.
What ever I build it is only as strong as the boat. I can do it but I cannot guarantee what happens. I’m 95% sure that my work will hold up, just not sure of the boat. With that said, the ones that I have built, no one has ever come back for a repair.

As a craftsman myself (different field), I can tell nice work when I see it. That looks like it grew there. Sweet work!

13skulls, I’m glad to hear it!
Like I’ve said in the past, in almost 30 yrs., I’ve never had a job come back to me for repair because of workmanship. That is something I’m very proud of.
