Launched the GW33 at Folly ramp at 0330 and proceded to run out the river to the Stono inlet and beyond in search of big fish. Going out the Stono inlet just before crossing the bar, all of the sudden lost all steering to port, wouls steer to stbd. but not to port at all. Dropped anchor in the middle in of inlet and proceded to check steering system out, no leaks or flud spilled found.(thnx for not running me down in middle of channel Cracker:) Rummaged around down below and got out the bleed fitting and hose for the help pump and some hyd. fluid and proceded to try and bleed system as it seemed like it had air in it, after 45 mins of spinning wheel back and forth with bleed fitting hooked up finally got system working again and hit the up windlass button and proceded back on our way offshore. (there would have been next to no way to bleed system at anchor without that fitting and hose on board) Steering worked great all day then, only got one or two bubbles out of system when bleeding it. Might be the AP system, have to recheck all that.
Ran out over the EB and stopped in 600 and dropped lines on a break. Trolled around 600 for a bit then worked all the way out to about 2000 ft, found lots of scattered weeds, breaks and a nice lookin rip. Was a very slow morning but finally got into the fish, started changin up the rigs a lot, rigging them weedless, pullin cedar plug(bam, worked), old lures, and a few that were brought out of retirement after spending 8 years or so on the back shelf, even brought out the SSL (sworn to secrecy on by 3 captains in Kona when I was 12 cleaning thier boats). Brought home a dozen nice dolphins for the freezer with some beautiful head gaff shots by fishing partner!
Ocean glassed off completely, could have waterskiied 60 miles offshore!
Another sucessful trip out on the big blue ocean. Dedicated once again to my Father who celebrated his 80th B-day yesterday and has inspired and taught me all my life to love and respect the oceans of the world.
Sh@t, that was NOT supposed to be in the picture!!!, Um,Um, more to it then it looks, that’s all I’m gonna say on the matter before I incur the wrath of King Neptune, (I had to beat 3 older local Hawaiian kids in a swimming race across a coral, shark infested reef breaking with surf just for the priveledge of cleaning these 3 Captains boats! True story there!)((maybe exagerated tho, I am a fisherman:)) ok ok ok, so there was only two lil 4 ft sharks cruisin round, but I still got scars on legs from that dam@ coral!
Know what ya mean there Seachaser210 bout straight to the box from gaff, makes it nice that way for sure! Most the fish were able to do that, every now and then one decided to get a bit frisky tho! Had one even come out of box and fortunantly hit deck before being subdued by yours truly and his bat and returned to fish box! Few years ago had bout a 35 pounder bust the latch on the fish box, jump up, smack the guy who caught it standing there in the face with tail and made it back over the side! (latch is busted again now)
Plus, a bloody deck can be a beautiful sight sometimes!!
