another newb here

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hey. I used to live up in Raleigh and fished Southport and Morehead City. I just moved down to North Augusta for a new job in Augusta, so I guess my fishing grounds are going to be changing after the winter. I’m not a big poster but I’ll be around reading and asking questions to try to shorten the learning curve for the area. I fish a ‘86 20’ Shamrock cuddy cabin.

Welcome. You will be amazed at the information you can get from this site.

FYI, be sure to take full advantage of the Search utility up at the top and you will find an answer for most questions you may have.

andyb, don’t know if you plan to fish for stripers and hybreds on Clark Hill but there is a lot of info on the striper forum at this site! Lot of good fishing in your back yard. Good Luck! Don’t be afraid to ask questions of these good fisherman. Most are glad to help!

Thanks y’all. boatpoor, I’ve never been much of a freshwater fisherman. Seeing as it’s so darn expensive to go offshore and then to tack on towing down and back too, I’m most likely going to exploring Clarks Hill a good bit too. I’m thinking I’m going to try to figure out the stripers and cats up here.

Hey andyb, I’m not far from you near Aiken. I like to fish around the Edisto and Beaufort area. If ever need a buddy boat let me know.

kawboy, thanks for the offer. I’ll keep that in mind.

Welcome to the area, I feel fishing is alot more like Southport offshore than compared to Morehead City’s offshore scene. Where are you planning on fishing out of(Saltwater)?

Welcome to CharlestonFishing.com.

Thanks. scdiver, I’m fishing out of a 1986 20’ Shamrock with a 351 straight inboard. I’m good for about 20 miles and still have reserve fuel left over. So really not offshore, stream runs. More so nearshore I guess. You know how it is, 20 miles… offshore to some, nearshore to others. Good to hear, I liked Southport the best actually.

Welcome andyb! Like said previously, there’s a lot of information to be had on the site.
One note though, I hope you have a thick skin. Some folks tend to go overboard and have big internet balls. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Thanks Bob. Yeah I’m not too sensitive, it’s just the internet!

On another note, I have already done some searches around the site and found about you doing Aluminum Fab. You do fuel tanks? If so I’ll be giving you a call for a quote. I need to replace the tanks in my Shamrock.

I’ve done a few smaller ones, 12-20 gal. Also repairs on tanks up to 150 gal. Give me a call sometime and we’ll see what we can do.
Thanks.

It has 2 tanks, 30 gal. each. I also have .pdf of CAD drawings with dimensions for port and starboard, but don’t have the tanks out of the boat yet. I’ll give you a call once I empty them and get them out.

Welcome. One way to meet people in a new town and flatten the fishing learning curve to is join a local fishing club. Not familiar with any clubs in Augusta, but recommend checking a few out.

How do you like North Augusta? I grew up there and lived there for over 20 years before moving to Charleston 3 years ago. I’ve still got a ton of friends and family that live in Augusta/North Augusta.

I’m liking it so far. Only thing I dislike about North Augusta is that it seems like it’s a little lacking organization from a city planning standpoint. It has sprawled out, but there’s not really a big enough population to need to sprawl as much as it seems like it has.

SeaShaker, When you were living in Augusta, did you ever have any dealings with the residents of ‘Murphy Village’ in Belvedere, SC ? I use to go to the VA hosp. in Augusta and would go by there on US-25. I thought their architecture was interesting. I noticed really nice houses with aluminum foil on the windows, for instance. What’s up with that? Thanks, Tim
