3.5 hours of drifting this morning with the Daughter in the Canal for Catfish. Now if I could only get her to help fillet them as well as catch them…
What are you using for bait?
Drifting with rigs on the bottom or “up off of the bottom”?

I make my own bottom bouncing rigs with 50# test. Rig is 3’ long. 1oz bank sinker at bottom of rig, loop knot with hook 12" above sinker, 24" above the loop knot attach swivel. I tight line this rig ( straight up and down ) using trolling motor to control drift and stay in contact with the bottom as the depth changes. The added length of line above the hook helps keep the fish from wrapping up in your mainline and cutting you off. I’ll out fish other boats drifting by 4 or 5 to 1 with this rig. Shrimp for bait on this rig.
We were also using one rod each set in a rod holder with a Carolina rig, set 18 feet deep since we were marking suspended fish anywhere from 10 feet off the bottom on down. Used strips of Chicken skin on these rods. Caught about 1/3 of our fish this way.
Awsome box of fish! Wish I had the time to go.Love your posts and the pictures of your little girl! Mine are all grown up now and miss the time I spent with them at that age!
You ain’t out fishing us, no more! You gave us your rig, now we just have to get us a little Red Head girl, to pose with the fish:smiley: Good job with the fish and an even better job with the Red Head, kid

Yes…But, I didn’t tell ya’ll the - secret - color of the bead that goes on the mainline above the swivel.

Nope, that Pink bead is the color she wants on the Carolina rigs. The bottom rigs have the - secret - color on them.
fish were strange yesterday, shoulda had some shrimp but plain old red worms saved the day. Not a single bite on cut bluegill, perch, stink baits, nothing! Used redworms on a light spinning rod to catch bait and ended up with three over twenty pounds (released) and seven in the 4-6 pound range. Canal was packed with boats and jet skis, especially the upper end.

Yeah, it’s going to be crazy there the next few days with all the boat traffic. Most of what we were keeping were 3 or 4 pounds with a few 7 or 8 pounders and one around 13 pounds.
Thanks for the tips.
