2005 f225 motor won’t start…get the one click in motor at key turn. about every 20-50th ignition turn, it starts right up. been getting worse for two summers now. load tested both batteries: ok. checked battery cable: ok; inspected, disconnected, cleaned, re-crimped all cables/wires at battery: ok. 12.4V at motor terminals where battery cable comes in. Took off black plastic air intakes to expose starter; 12.4V on terminals on bottom of starter; Then I tried a load test while hooked to the starter: voltage meter dropped from 12 to 5, starter began to hum and spin but pinion flywheel did not “jump up” to start engine. Single click sound comes from the black box where the cables go from the starter. What does this mean: bad relay(s) or entire starter? any input would be appreciated! thanks
that happened to me last year except it was every 6 or 7 turns then start up. mine was a bad relay. it was around $300 to fix.

sounds ike battery cables
when it happens, you need to load test cables at motor
turns out it was small starter relay $98; I originally thought the brown wire off the starter was ground, but figured out it was juice and could jump it to see it was ok.
glad you figured out
how did you determine it was the relay for sure?
put a multimeter on boths sides of the relay and turned the key; the starter side of the relay was always 0 volts. also jumped the brown wire from the starter to juice and cranked; then replaced the starter relay and it starts like brand new. took a couple weeks for me to figure out
