In our most recent ice storm I had an oak limb fall on my boat. The limb did not damage to the actual boat but it did break my vhf antenna. It was a white Shakespeare. Is this the best option for an antenna for the money??

“Give a man a fish, feed him for a day…Teach a man to fish, he’ll probably be in your spot next time.”
for a 17 keywest, yes, that will work just fine
if you were going to be 50-70 miles offshore, then you want the best antennae you can afford, but for an inshore boat, you will have no issues with a standard Shakespeare.
I don’t know if you can repair them or if you interested but I just replaced a 5 foot shakespeare on my boat. The tip was broken off a few inches. Still works fine and if you want it you can have it. Maybe easier to fix than yours depending on where yours was broke.
There is a recent thread on The Hull Truth, with 20-30 comments on the virtues of different antennae, if you want that much info. The Standard Horizon GX1700 was a popular option due to price and built-in GPS. But SH versus Shakespear is a Ford-Chevy debate, and everyone has their own bias.

Got2Go, if it isn’t claimed by LBoogie, I might be interested in it. I am hoping to buy a VHF radio for my boat in the coming months. What size is it? I was looking to probably get a 4’-5’ antenna.
