Antique identification

I acquired this over the weekend along with some oil cans and rusty stuff. Does anyone know what this might be? It fits for a license plate, but I’m not sure what the purpose was for. Its heavier than today’s license plates. I appreciate any ■■■■■■■■ from you long time Charlestonians!

And no, its not for sale.

Two pieces, like they were meant to sandwich something to be mounted. There’s no writing on the back plate.

On top of a standard size license plate.

The only purpose I can see is to show pride in where you live. I remember as a kid my dad’s buddy had a Cherry Grove license plate on his car.

How about the rest of the rusty treasures … pictures?
I used to collect oil cans old tools stuff most people would just throw away.

You find things offensive. I find things funny. That's why I'm happier than you.

I’ve heard multiple things, but still don’t have any definitive proof of where it came from:

Front of Tractors owned by the gov.
Forestry vehicles owned by the gov.
A sign from a railroad bridge.
Front of some sort of public works vehicle.

We may never know.

IT’s only been a week Ricky! You’ll get it figured out!

I couldn’t sleep last night wondering what the heck that thing went on. You gotta find out.

Exactly!
