I’m curious about the flounder drift rig and the fish finder rig. I’m assuming both are used in surf type conditions out on the beach?
also, anyone have any pics of them actually rigged up and not diagrams? kinda vague on the leader lengths on both of these while other pics in the diagram have lengths mentioned. also, what size cork/distance from the hook for the flounder rig and do you just run the line through a pyramid sinker on the fish finder rig or is there really a sleeve (the hell is a duolock snap?) that goes around it as well?
oh yeah, been lurking for a while but signed up to post this as I couldnt really find what I wanted on the search…time to ask more questions bothering you guys haha
Welcome to the board - - suggest you get the DNR Flounder book for good details on flounder rigs. Also, learn the dropper loop knot and make your own bottom rigs.
Here’s a great knot site - - step-by-step animation; you can stop each step for a longer look. http://www.animatedknots.com/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com
That’s a long address; you might as well just google “animated knots by Greg”.
good luck, NaClH20
AND: the guys at Haddrell’s will show you how to make your rigs, too.
so I can just pop into the dnr on fort johnson road and they’ll have books covering the popular fishes? like if they have a book on flounder they’ll have one for red drum, etc??
check out one of the local tackle shops (chas angler, haddrells, etc) all will have these rigs pre made and can also provide the materials and knowledge to make and use them.

Give them a call first to make sure they have them in stock. I use to see the at several tackle shops. I haven't looked in a while. DNR made some great fishing books.
Here is an update. i clicked on a couple buttons on this inter-web and got to the SCDNR web site. You can see (or download if you want) the flounder book and a few others from the DNR site. It’s under DNR fishing publications. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/fish/publications.html
Growing up in jersey and on my fathers boat(45 ft Pacemaker), when we werent off shore we would be in the bays flounder fishing and the so called " surf fishing jig" is all we ever used bottom fishing and drifting, and the “fish finder jig” is what we would use in the surf. and the botton rig, was never used up north at all unless you were fishing sea bass. I really never looked in to the “why” of it all but when I first moved down here, it took me a few years before I even caught a fish, I was using the right bait at the right time, or mostly I just had no clue what the heck I was doing…for flounder for example I am use to drifting in about 15-20 ft of water, never have I ever been on or seen a flast boat , except for on tv until moving here. Fishing is just different up north, except offshore.
