Any fish left in the rivers or have they done thier thing and headed for deeper cooler waters.
Does not seem like it was a very big run this year from what I hear. I have caught fish in the Saluda in mid August.
We have been killin them in the saluda this year 4 last night, big fish was 14 lbs. 6 good fish last sunday. I would post photos if i could figure out how.
WHERE AT ON THE SALUDA. I LIVE ABOUT A MINUTE AND A HALF FROM THE HOPEFERRY LANDING. I JUST HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FISH FOR THEM IN THE RIVER. I FISHED ABOVE LAKE GREENWOOD IN THE SALUDA AND WE USED WHITE FLUKES WITH HALF OZ. JIG HEADS. IT WORKED ON A FEW STRIPES.ANY TIPS YOU CAN GIVE WOULD BE AWESOME.
Castin-
Find some small shad and chum - they will find you-
No shad- try glowplugs or white spook-
me and my bro are headed out in the am. will post report with pix (hopefully)
i’m hoping that the water running this week then shutting down will have the big boys frisky for the feast they had been getting until today. time will tell as they say.
From what I heard when the water runs the fish go into a feeding frenzy. Then when the shut the water off the fish shut down. I am not sure how long until they start feeding again though. I stopped by to fish the river for about half an hour and saw some activity but did not catch any.
i’ve heard that too. but, i’d rather spend the morning on the river than just about anywhere else.
the winds are forecast 8-10mph from the north. doesn’t sound like fun in my 16’ jon on the lake.
Yes, I agree with that. It is a lot more solitary and scenic on the river. The Saluda is what hooked me on stripers. When I moved here I saw the sign for Metts Landing and went down to check it out. I had no idea what was in it or what body of water it was. I was throwing a long A bomber with 8# test. I landed a 25# striper that pulled my line up and down the river. Still amazed I landed it. Took me about 9 months to get another but I kept trying. Still my biggest one to date.
rub it in Tom… rub it in good…
i’ve yet to come close to a fish that nice, but hey… they all taste good deep fried. lmao
well me and phishinphan hit the Saluda Saturady AM. we were the first rig at the Metts landing and headed downstream with a bait tank full of frisky herring from Better Bait. The river was actually higher than we’d seen it lately and we made it all the way to I-26 without getting wet, i guess our green is starting to wear off! we tried not to fling any herring until past the Shaw intake. We fish a cork probably holding between 5 or 7’ and let it drfit in to the deep water pools below rapids, creek mouths, and river bends. We also free line on our smaller action rods at the same time, slappin the banks or letting them drift behind the corks. We didnt get anything until after 8 or 9. Both of us missed a couple due to too much slack in the line…hahaha, yeah right…but anyway…“they were huge” lmao…both of us landed one smaller guy probably 16-18" which we released nice and clean, but for some reason they didnt send they big brothers back! We ran into a few other guys too. couple boats had no luck, one like us, and another had one nice fish, probably 25"+ i’d say not quite a 30" though. Quittin time around noon and the river was starting to fillup with tubes and kayaks…ran into one more boat…DNR guys in a 1860 G3 jon w/ a 90 yammi 4stroke jet…definately the “king of the river”…that was a bad azz rig man! They seemed to be really interested in the fish that we and others had caught and less about our safety equipment. all in all a nice little trip, nothing spectacular but we didnt get skunked and of course i’ve killed several hours in much much worse places!
report from my bro says it all.
it was really nice on the water, i only wish the bite was stronger.
