I think your idea of painting it is the way to go. I would use masking tape around the decal and use several light coats of spray paint. I wouldn’t use a brush. That would leave to many stroke marks.

Or just use a heat gun and remove them.
Chris,
I will most likely have some gelcoat left over if you want to use that…that is much better than spray paint, will look better and last longer and is also very easy to apply

I think those letters are plastic, stick-on decals. Personally, I’d just remove them and order new ones from Sea Pro, but you could sand them down to the plastic and spray paint them with some good spray paint, and they’ll look great if you know how to paint.

Couldn’t find any Sea Pro stickers… Think i will sand down and hit the paint shop… Might go with a non stock color, just don’t know what yet.
Thanks for the help!
Oops! Forgot about that little detail. LOL.
Just take it off and put your own custom name in it’s place, Coates. Vinyl is easy to install. I think the sand and spray paint will work fine if you really want to keep those letters, though.

You can buy vinyl Sea Pro decals online from various sources, Coates, or have a local sign guy make them for pretty cheap. Do a Google search for “sea pro decal”.
If you paint it with a brush, it will look like crap. Sray it. As a hobbby, I thiker a little with restoring old arcade machines and stuff like that, and I’ve had excellent results with Krylon Epoxy Enamel on plastic (and Rustoleum on metal). I sand it smooth with high-grit paper, prime it, sand it lightly again, and put a thick spray on it, and it looks mirror shiny and perfect. Make sure whatever you’re using is meant to go on plastic. You might find something that will not crack off as easily as the epoxy enamel under flexing. Not sure. But whatever you do, spray it; don’t brush it.
Also, I’d see if you can find some spray paint that is more resistant to UV than the average paint.

Thanks Gotcha… i wish i could just take the whole thing off and put Contender… would raise resale value by 50%
You could always misspell it on purpose (e.g., Contendre).
