Any locksmiths reprogram GM key fobs?

My key fob on my car (03 DeVille) quit working, and I need to replace it. These are known for bad solder joints internally, and I had to fix my wife’s fob about 3 years ago because bad solder joints. There was no fixing mine though, fresh solder and batteries profited nothing.

You can’t program these without the Tech II tool, and before I just start calling locksmiths at random, I’m sure there’s one, or a friend of one, here that does them.

I could take it to the dealership, but I’d rather support a small business first… especially since they will likely be more affordable anyhow.

And if you have to know, my DeVille is the lime green one with gold 26" rims, bull horns on the front, fake leather soft top, and Skittles painted on the side. But not the one in North Charleston, mine is the one in Summerville.

I think the tech II is a gm dealer only. I have a good friend up here thats a locksmith and he doesn’t do them. He can make you a key, but not program the fob. Also, did you ever get the oil leaks fixed?

you can buy new gm key fobs for like $30 a piece off the interwebs. instructions come on how to program them. it’s what i did on my '04 chevy silverado. super easy.

Yeah, but why do this when you can pay the dealer 3-4 times that?

I think Autozone or Oriellys can do it.

Double D.

Autozone advertises replacement FOBs for most vehicles…

Negative. You can do some GM vehicles this way, but you cannot program these on the Caddys and a lot of other GM vehicles without the Tech II tool.

Locksmiths sometimes own these devices, and I was hoping someone here could suggest a good locksmith.

Have you tried a new rubber keypad? That fixed my one fob but I need a replacement as well for my 05 Cobalt SS. Its a tech 2 reprogram only too.

It kills me though because I worked at a gm shop and I know it takes a whopping 5 minutes to do and it will cost 100$ plus a fob. No software downloads, pass through programming, etc.

I can pull my wife’s fob apart and swap the keys to see if that helps.
