There are no wild “cats” in SC. Show me ONE legitimate pic of one. There are a lot of “sightings” but I can guarantee those are mistaken identities. IF and I mean IF one was sighted, it dang sure wont be a black one like people love to claim.
I’ve seen plenty of these…

I’d agree that a black panther would be a super oddity, but a brown panther is very conceivable. Florida is not that far away and they still have a few wild ones. I’d guess the Georgia Okefenokee swamp could would be a good looking point.
If a local shot one they would probably keep it quiet. Just guessing.

I’ve had several family members who are long time hunters spot big cats with long tails in the woods. Can’t remember if they said they were black or brown but does that really matter?
I saw more and got more pictures of them (edit:Bobcats) this year than any other year. Besides our quail, which I don’t think we ever had many of, our biodiversity in Awendaw is really good right now. Only thing I don’t like is the Coyotes. Rabits, bobcat, turkey populations are all pretty stable is seems now. Up the road a few miles my cousin has a Bear stop by his place every now and then.

It’s 2016, nobody can keep anything quiet anymore, especially something that supposedly doesn’t exist.

We still have some old timers left… but I can not argue very much with that statement.

I have a recent pic. on my phone a young fellow and his dad sent me from Batesburg/Leesville. A trail cam pic from a couple of weeks ago. I’ll see if I can post it?
such a joke… there are none in SC… PERIOD. They never get hit by cars, never get a pic on a game camera and apparently never die because their remains are never found.

In 63 years of roaming, hunting and fishing the swamps, I’ve only seen one long tailed black cat, and 2 brown ones. They are there, but they aren’t very common. I see a bobcat every week or so. Used to see more until we quit raising chickens.

Twice in my life. And no it was not a dog. Believe it or not. I can promise you I don’t knowingly lie and will meet you face to face and look you in the eye and tell you the same.
I won’t dwell on second sighting, but no question on the first time. Long tailed brown big cat (double a bob cat) running dogs in September 1978. No question what it was. My Uncle also saw it, He was pissed off at me because I didn’t shoot at it.
I am kind of surprised that no game camera has gotten a picture and there just may be none around? Either way here or gone, I won’t be surprised.
I’ve seen wolf, Bear, + numerous other things… but no pic of a long tailed big cat. Kind of surprised some organization hasn’t tried to reintroduce them. I know there was a study to possibly put them on the SRS as it is such a large area.

Same here. I know what I see, I know what a black lab looks like and I don’t lie. Spent a whole lot of time in the swamps, seen 2 brown ones and one black in my whole life. The most recent was probably 12 years ago. There aren’t many, but there are some. Believe what you want.

Can’t see the tail, but I’m guessing that it’s not a Bobcat…

Honey badger or black lab… Hard to tell without seeing the tail.
I wish this bobcat did not look so healthy.
What do you guys think caused the scar on this deer?
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.
I’ve got a couple of does with scars like that. Not sure if that happens when the bucks get rough during the rut or not. I don’t have any young deer with scars like that, just old nannies.
As far as bobcats go, that looks like a mature one to me. The only I killed was a 24lb male.

This is a leopard based specifically on the rosettes you can clearly see. Google image search the picture and its also been a trail cam picture in Georgia, Texas, Alabama and Indiana. Someone is pulling your leg bubba. The picture was taken in Africa.
