Any Spanish?

Anybody seeing or catching any Spanish? If so, how far out are they? Haven’t heard anybody talking about the Spaniards, they ought to be here by now. Cinco de Mayo and all.

Kinda off-topic in a way, but we caught some spanish fishing off Folly Pier actually. Was at high tide on 1oz diamond jigs. It seemed like a thick school as the action was pretty good for about 45 mins with couple in the cooler can say they had at least some size to them.

Last 10 days I’ve kinda looked for them, but haven’t run into them. Still looking though.

Found some two weeks ago in the shipping channel. Two weeks prior to that they were at the 60.

Thanks guys, they should be thick by now. Last year seemed light on the Spanish too. Might try for them this weekend if I can’t get way offshore.

saw good color and tidelines the other day. they should be around.

They are being caught nearshore along the middle NC coast. Should be here…

I saw some jumbo spanish jumping about 3 miles off of Stono Inlet at high water on Sunday. No big schools, just what appeared to be 10 or 20 fish schools. We trolled spoons, planers, etc in that area for a bit with no results. Tide started going out they disappeared.

I walked the folly pier about 2 on Monday and something was feeding all over the place. Water blowing up all over. Not sure that means spanish but it means something is out there

Get one of those silver spoons that’s about 3-4" long, cast as far as you can and reel it back fast enough that it stays just on top of the water (like a scared baitfish). If there’s Spanish out there, you’ll find out.
Might want to use some tieable wire leader as well.
