It would be a second kayak for me to bring wife or son on occasion…

Anyone have this thing? I think it’s new.

Looks good to me. I have a Hertitge Redfish 140 (thanks Too Busy) and it is a bit too much yak for my son to handle easily. He’s 16 and a good siized kid. That yak looks like a good size for a kid or a wife. But, in my defense, I’m pretty new to yaks.

Looks like it’ll float and thats all ya really need. Sadly you can;t test paddle it and won;t really know how comfortable or stable or dry or how easy it is to get i nthat hatch and close it or reach anythign til you buy it… 31" wide… thats 3 inches wider than a Tarpon adn 1" less than a ride… Never heard fo the brand but it looks like someone had a clue about kayak fishing when they designed it…

it looks like a blend between a W/S Tarpon, an OK prowler, and a Native manta ray. they borrowed a little from each style, only way to know how it paddles is to try it out. at 31 inches it seems a little wide, but that’s how they’re getting the rated capacity up. the big hatch up front should let you store rods, paddle, and pfd in the hull for transport

Thanks for input guys. My first reaction was obviously to the price, but when you look at it - it DOES seem to have all the features needed for a fishing kayak - especially a SECOND fishing kayak really for friends and family to come along occasionally.

It’s definitely wide and probably slow, but my Manta 12 is not breaking any speed records either so no biggy there. I am a big guy (240) so I put a premium on stability anyway, thus my Manta-Raft ownership…

I’m gonna ride to Bass Pro in Savannah on my next day off and see if they have one I can kick the tires on.

The real kicker here is that I have $400 in Bass Pro gift cards given to me from my staff at the job I just left as a going away present - so in essence the kayak is $79 out of pocket for me (plus PFD and paddle etc…) At that rate, somebody on here would have to have had a pretty bad personal experience to talk me out of it.

I’ll review here if/when I buy it, I’m sure at that price there are a couple of guys teetering on the edge of buying a kayak who would just go ahead and do it if they knew it wasn’t a POS.

Looks good. Another thing, what I have done, is for the same $$ you can be patient and pick up a “previously enjoyed” better yak from someone here or on sckayakfishing.com. Just sayin. I’m a big believer in buying used to get a better value.

if not for the gift cards - that WOULD be my strategy…

I got my son who is 8 an Ocean Kayak prowler 13 and he does fine with it we paddled about 3.5 hours last sunday at Copahee looking for trout. You can find the yellow one without side handles (you can add them yourself)for about $600 it is a very good yak. Bass Pro shops carries them I believe.

Thanks 5151. I’ll have to go check them out side by side in store, but they told me when I called no Ascend Angler models in stock until the end of the month.

BP website lists prowler 11 for $849 though and 13 for even more? How long ago did you purchase there?

it is not the trident just the plain prowler

I have seen them at Bass Pro but they dont have them online

right on - thanks again for the heads up…

OK - here’s the deal:

That “Ascend” kayak has shown as “in stock” then “out of stock” constantly and I really wanted to believe I could buy a fishing rig good enough to be my second ride on the cheap - SO - the other night I called Bass Pro and when they had two in stock, I bought one over the phone sight unseen figuring if I hated it for some reason I would just ask for my money back when I got there.

WELL- when I got there to pick it up it was all wrapped up and I said I needed to inspect it. Good thing. First of all, it was damaged on the bottom, but right away I knew this thing was a P.O.S. The kid tried to show me the other they had in stock - also damaged. Now I put on my “I just drove 2 hours here” sad face and asked for a manager. I did my best “disappointed in this Bass Pro experience” and got the manager to sell me a Prowler Trident 11 Angler for $700 which seems like a sweet deal. I’m sure some expert on here knows somebody who got one cheaper…

The poly on that Ascend yak was pretty thin. I couldn’t see myself paddling over oysters in it. It would probably be just fine for lake fishing I guess. Seemed to be laid out very well with a nice cockpit area.

That is a good deal
