anybody else itching for the tailing tides?

Itching…I’ve got hives starting to form. I went to my new “walk to” spot at lunch and chanted……

Stand up and Fish!

Yep.
I am off to Mosquito Lagoon late next week to try and get a taste.
chris.

Will be down for the set last of April and then I’m heading to the IRL/ML middle of May. nbk65bodyodor, you like north or south end of the ML? I’ve always fished the IRL and BR so this will be my first on the ML. I’ve done a lot of Google Earth snooping and found several spots I like. I’m really interested in fishing the mangroves just to see if they produce like down in the glades.

saw tons o fiddlers today…wont be long now!

just looked back and my first good day with them going off, was april 24th last year. 20 or so seen, 4 caught otf, rabbit tail ep crab.

i just go out and stand in water 3 or 4 days a week for practice. cypress swamps are getting pretty warm so the flats cant be too far behind. PLUS, the little singing minstrels that always signal spring are starting to crawl in my ears. it just wouldnt be right to see a big tail without suffering. maybe they are there to reinforce the itching. been making do with some largemouth–a decent substitute.

he’s pretty white for a fly guy

I am going to spend most of my time in the backcountry this trip. The main lagoon gets the crap beat out of it. I will spend some time in the very south, but mostly in the backcountry. I like the north better because you can get out of the wind easier also. I was on an enourmous school of big reds last june and you could not get within 200’ of these fish. Way to spooky.

Chris.

Went out last nite behind my house, but with the wind like it was, I think I should take the lack of tailers with a gain of salt. I did see a bunch of fiddlers, mullet and even a blue crab up on the flat, so I don’t think we’re too far off.

In the grass?
The big schools seem to have broken up.
chris.

Went out again tonite. Saw 5 fish, but none really rooting around hard. I believe the next set of good tides will be the ones.

I poled 2 flats saturday evening and only saw one fish tail n the Wando.

Looks like we are having east winds for several days. Maybe this will bring more warm water and turn them on more.
chris.

Sweeeeeeet!

Thanks for the heads up guys. 6.5 tonight at 8.30pm might be worth an afternoon peek with no expectations. just will be nice to get out there.

saw about a dozen this evening legit tailing on the wando, none of that cruising through the grass stuff, literally standing on their heads, tried to get my buddy his first on fly but couldn’t connect, also got soaked by rain, good news…THEY’RE HERE.

you had a little better luck, i saw 4 tailing right before the light burned out. Made a couple of casts but didn’t have any takers.
