Alright yall admit it. Did anyone else out there get stuck with that negative tide today. Tide dropped super quick while i was fishing way up a creek and when we tried to leave it was too late. Tried pushing and poling but it was hopeless. 2 hours later and we were back to the waterway.
I know i wasnt the only one out there that this happened too…Lets here some stories
Nothing like spending a little extra quality time with your spouse…you know…conversation goes like this…ahmmm.tides dropping fast…maybe we should leave…ok…just a few more minutes …
Um yeah, we got surprised too along with about 6 other boats where we were. There was 2 ft of water and then it was like it disappeared in 2 minutes. While twiddling our fingers waiting on the turn I happened to see a skate high and dry as well so I went and put him in a small trough filled with water. Tide did turn rather quickly though.
Reel Therapy, we were right next to you in that half tower Bone Fish. I saw you “land” the skate. Slow on the outgoing, did a little better on the incoming but had to leave early.
First Coat, yeah I saw you boat a couple before you left. We had MMs out, cut mullet out, and I threw every color artificial I had (which is about 20) and couldn’t get a strike. Either we were setup in wrong spot or my technique was wrong. I was retrieving REAL slow. I saw them everywhere too. Yeah my feet are killing me today because of my stupidity walking barefoot. I’m just glad I wasn’t in my boat or we would have been there for quite a while. Good job on the few you did manage to catch. I caught one early and that was it.
haha well i am glad that i wasnt the only one out there. But it was just as penfishn described it… We were catching fish left and right and i kept saying one more cast and one more cast turned into 5 more and then it was too late. hey it happens. There is a first for everything.
Reel - We must have seen a hundred or two within 40 yards of where we got stuck but no bites (for us) on the outgoing. We were using freshly cut whole frozen mullet, large chunks. The arti’s we tried produced a short strike or two, no hook ups. All I can say is we were sight casting to the moving schools, trying to get in front of them.
To the original poster, getting stuck with 2 six year olds isn’t that much fun.
Find some fish that are not pressured every single day and they may bite more. I counted 11 boats in an area that used to have maybe 3 in it on Saturday.
Fritz did you fish Saturday, or just joyride. Saw your pic on Fb with the family (pups). Great pic! I usually don’t go up that way because I’m not too familiar with the water and structure up there, but trying to learn. I definitely see where those fish would be pressured pretty heavy.
First Coat - I saw a ton of fish too before the water “evaporated”. Incoming, I saw a few but not like outgoing. Yall were definitely on the favorable side of that one oyster mound. Helps having that tower I bet. I could only see them with my sunglasses on. Saw a couple pigs swim by and just smile.
I had 3 dogs and 2 women on the boat. We fished for 11 minutes and they caught 3 rat reds around some structure and we headed in. Spent most of our time on Dewees letting the dogs run.
Yep stuck for a few hours on Saturday. Got a good opportunity to Field Test my new Muck Boots. Caught a nice 17 inch fat flounder and 4 Reds. Great day on the water.
